The meeting highlighted the growing consolidation of relations between the Kingdom of Spain and Cape Verde, especially in the economic sphere, where Spain plays a major role for Cape Verde, with several Spanish companies operating in the country. In the maritime sector, co-operation is also significant, with numerous Spanish companies operating in Cape Verde, particularly in the areas of processing and other related branches.
The Minister for the Sea took the opportunity to highlight the internationalisation process of Cape Verde’s ports, emphasising the potential for bilateral cooperation.
The visit to the Port of Vigo allowed our delegation to directly observe its operating and management structure, offering valuable lessons for the implementation of new practices in Cape Verde, especially with regard to the sub-concession of national ports.
One of the main results of the visit was the realisation that Cape Verde and the Port of Vigo can establish closer collaboration, particularly in the areas of human resources training and the management of auctions. In addition, Vigo’s support for Cape Verde in the creation of ‘blue harbours’ was discussed, promoting greater interaction between the two regions.
Another important point discussed was shipbuilding, with emphasis on the fact that Vigo is responsible for more than 50 per cent of Spain’s shipbuilding production.
The Cape Verdean delegation also visited Astilleros Armón, one of the largest companies in the sector, which could become a strategic partner for CABNAVE, not only in ship repair, but also in the area of training in Cape Verde, through specialised programmes for technical and professional training.
This visit reinforces the importance of international partnerships in the development of Cape Verde’s maritime sector, with training as an essential pillar for the growth and sustainability of port and naval activities in the country.
