How it all began
Our History
CABNAVE was set up in May 1980 as a public-private Limited Liability Company between the state of Cape Verde and private individuals.
At the time of its construction, CABNAVE was financed by the government of Cape Verde, the European Investment Bank, the Bank of Cape Verde, the African Development Bank and Portugal’s Caixa Geral de Depósitos.
In 1982, with a firm resolve, work began on the construction of its facilities, as well as a strong commitment to professional training, as an important measure for acquiring the skilled labour needed to carry out its activities.

Ship repair and construction in Cape Verde
In July 1983, this new company, the result of a public limited company owned by the State of Cape Verde, was inaugurated. Its main activity was the ship repair of medium and large ships. It has been adapting to the rapid development of Cape Verde’s port cargo handling and guaranteeing the safety of navigation in our waters and those of the world;
The emergence of a ship repair and construction yard in Cape Verde is due to a number of factors, in particular the natural conditions of the bay of Porto Grande, which has always provided a series of activities linked to ships of various origins and capacities.
